Wireless Poker Controller Now Available to Pre-Order

An e-mail recently received by PokerSoftware.com announced availability of the Wireless Poker Controller, designed by Poker Controls. This month, pre-registration finally occured for this much-hyped tool, which turns online poker into a game of MarioKart. A notification received last month read, “For the players that want to be among the first to own a Wireless Poker Controller, you will be able to pre-order and pay for your Poker Controller in June 2009, thereby guaranteeing to be among the first to receive one and be the envy of all your fellow players.” The price is tentatively set at $79.99.

One of my favorite features has to be the Raise-O-Meter. Not only does it have a ridiculously hip name, but it also provides a simple method to increase and decrease the size of your bet using a knob like you’d find on your car radio. Preset bets (pictured at left) add to the Raise-O-Meter, allowing you to jump to certain amounts in a jiffy: 2X, 3X, 5X, Pot, and All-In. Three buttons for Bet, Check, or Fold appear directly across the controller from the Raise-O-Meter. Each is clearly labeled so you don’t make a grave mistake; all three buttons also have a distinct shape in case you temporarily go blind.

In the upper right and left, where you push down to power slide in MarioKart, you’ll find the button to toggle tables if you’re playing on more than one. This button would ideally be hit by your index finger and is “ergonomically placed.” When you press these buttons, an on-screen notification will pop up alerting you that you’ve changed tables. When the bad beats really get to you, head straight for the Anti-Tilt button, a small red key that simply says “TILT.” It doesn’t shut you out of every game you’re playing. Instead, it prohibits you from acting on a certain table for a predetermined length of time. A countdown timer reminiscent of a Jerry Bruckheimer movie will come up telling you how many seconds you have left before you can head back to the table for revenge.

Other available buttons allow players to auto-post their blinds, wait for the big blind to come around, sit in and out, and go to the lobby. There’s a giant mouse touch pad like what’s on your computer in the middle of the Wireless Poker Controller. A representative from its parent company told PokerSoftware.com, “We literally cannot contain our excitement for the imminent worldwide release of the new Wireless Poker Controller. All of our initial expectations for demand of the Wireless Poker Controller have been surpassed by far! We remain stunned and flattered by the sheer volume of positive feedback and requests to order our new and innovative product.” I literally cannot wait to play with the Raise-O-Meter (pictured at left).

There are a bevy of benefits for the player. If you can read English, you can prevent mis-clicks at the tables by hitting the right buttons. You’re also less likely to be timed out on any given table because everything you need to make decisions is literally at your fingertips. By extension, you’ll also be able to play a lot faster, which means more money in your pocket (unless you’re a losing player, in which case you should take the $79.99 and buy a book). The same representative explained, “The Wireless Poker Controller is set to revolutionize the way online poker is played in the future.”

The e-mail also outlined numerous technical specifications of the Wireless Poker Controller. It uses 2.4 GHz technology to communicate up to a distance of 30 feet. The device is expected to see 40 hours’ worth of battery life and turns off automatically after 10 minutes of being idle. If the battery situation really gets dire, you can either hook the Wireless Poker Controller up to the nearest hamster wheel or plug its USB cable into a computer. A PC with an Intel Pentium 4 processor or later is required. Your computer must also have Windows XP, at least 512 MB of RAM, and 50 MB of hard drive space. You also need a USB port to receive information from the unit.
